Do you know “Visual Kei”(ヴィジュアル系) ? Visual Kei is a music type that emphasizes Japanese subculture of fashion. It was born in the 90s in Japan. Many of them wear brilliant costumes and flashy makeup. Basically Visual Kei bands play heavy metal sound and sing in a neutral voice. Today I’ll introduce an important person in Visual Kei history.
This is Hideto Matsumoto. He was also known as “hide” (it’s his stage name. I don’t mistake the capital.). He was a member of X JAPAN, and he played the guitar. “X JAPAN” is one of famous Visual Kei band of Japan. They made a major debut with their album “BLUE BLOOD”. The word “Visual Kei” originated from the artwork of this album. This artwork was directed by hide. X JAPAN broke up in 1997, they restarted their activity in 2007. but hide couldn’t play the guitar on their live show.
He had already passed away in 1998, when his solo activity was becoming famous. He tried some cutting edge systems in his activity. First, he used computer graphics in his music videos early. Second, he made his website. These activities were unusual at that time. Finally, he produced a store. This store is a clothing store and variety shop and beauty salon. He spread his attraction from this store.
